Obituary for Mary Ellen Patteson

VERONA - Mary Ellen (Grimes) Patteson, 79, died Sunday (February 10, 2019) in the University of Virginia Hospital. 

Born June 3, 1939 in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, she was a daughter of Mulvie Spinks Grimes and Hazel Ruth (Brown) Grimes. 

In additional to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Edward Patteson; and a son-in-law, Johnny Wayne Parnell.  Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Ellen Rhodenizer and husband Jason of Verona, and Loretta Ruth Parnell of Crimora; three granddaughters, Miranda Elizabeth Rhodenizer, Kristin Cheyenne Rhodenizer, and Kayla Nicole Parnell; two sisters, Dollie Marie Wilfong and Anna Lee Swiggett; two brothers, Mulvie William “Bill” Grimes and Thomas Ward Grimes; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, in Oak Lawn Memory Gardens, officiated by Pastor Drew Ridder.  Active pallbearers will be Robert Swiggett, J.W. Seay, Jason Rhodenizer, Wayne Wilfong, Charlie Snyder, Steven Harris, and Thomas Grimes.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bear Funeral Home.
